In 2002 shortly after Lisa and I left the band “Rough Cut” we started listening to a lot of “Outlaw” country mixed with Blues and old Southern Rock.  We both had grown up loving all of these styles of music.  They were us. 

We ran an ad on Slamomaha.com and this crazy guy calls us named Kurt Curtis.  I happened to be doing an acoustic show in a nearby town when he called and Lisa took the call and told him I was playing 2 miles from our house and I’ll be damned if he didn’t show up at my show that night.  He also turned out to be a great blues drummer that plays and sings from somewhere around his toes.  He’s one of a kind, reliable and one of our closest friends.  We nicknamed him Smilin’ Kurt Curtis some time ago.    We did that because it’s impossible to see Kurt Curtis perform and not have a good time.  

“Guitar” Randy Bartman and Mike “MZ” Zimmerman followed shortly after Kurt and we just started getting together a lot.  I think it was a perfect storm of circumstances that allowed us all of the practice time that we had. We just liked hanging out and learning songs and playing shows.   We must have spent a jillion hours gigging and in the practice room together.  We played small towns, Omaha, poker runs, street dances, weddings, fairs and festivals of all shapes and sizes for years.  In fact, we played about 3 weekends a month until January of 2006.

I was walking across my garage floor about 6 months ago and started humming a Toby Keith song that I hadn’t thought of in years and that Mynard Road used to do and I called Lisa, Randy, Mike and Kurt.  I told each of them that I missed them (I hadn’t seen Lisa all day give me a break there) and the music we used to do.  We got together and still felt the music but Mike couldn’t commit to the time involved so I called Tim Robinson who I thought had a very similar style to MZ  and suddenly Mynard Road is a band again.

We play a variety of music from St. Louis and Chicago style Blues to the “Outlaw” country like Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert and Aaron Lewis to the Southern Rock classics from Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker and Blackfoot.  We call it “Southern Fried Music with Blue Sauce”.    We fit in at any biker event, cowboy event or barbecue and they all seem to enjoy what we lay down.
